Welcome!

Welcome to the Siskiyou County Democrats Website. Before we talk about our organization and our current activities, we thought you might be interested in learning a bit about where we live. Then please explore the rest of our website where you can learn more about our organization and our candidates. You can volunteer, donate and learn about our local candidates.

Siskiyou County is located in inland northern California, adjacent to the Oregon border. Most of the population of 45,000+ people live along the I-5 corridor running thru the middle of the county. Traditional industries in the region are resource-based and include forest products, mining, agriculture and ranching. As more people discover the mild climate and the picturesque natural beauty of our mountains and valleys, our communities are becoming retirement and vacation destinations. The names of our communities- from biggest population to smallest are Yreka, Mt. Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, Montague, Tulelake, Dorris, Etna, Ft. Jones along with several smaller unincorporated towns. Political affiliation percentage is 37% Democrat, 42% Republican and 21% Independent.

Again welcome to the online presence of the Siskiyou County Democrats. We hope you will join us in or efforts to promote strong ethical conduct in government, social justice and human rights.

Onward...

HELP our Website -www.siskiyoudemocrats.org - Brian Causway and JoAn Saltzen

We currently have a good website, providing a wide range of information and news about County, State and Democratic positions, issues, candidates, and events. It could become a formidable tool that, if properly updated, would give us a decisive grassroots opportunity to inform and network with Democrats and Independents all across our county. But it needs some help. Our last webmaster, Brian Causway, is a full time college student, works as a preschool special education teacher's assistant, and has a very busy family life. He hasn't had the time to keep our website up-to-date and has resigned as our full-time website caretaker.

We are asking for volunteers to help return our website to its full potential and reinvigorate our online presence in Siskiyou County. If you are interested in volunteering as webmaster, or would like to be trained to do so, please call Marilyn Pettenger (496-3396) or Jo Peterson (468-5947)

Obama's Back To School Speech Sept. 7, 2009

Hello everyone - how's everybody doing today? I'm here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we've got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I'm glad you all could join us today.

I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it's your first day in a new school, so it's understandable if you're a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could've stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.
