Red Alert! June 2008 proposition could become a huge problem.

Under the guise of “reform,” Republican operatives are funding a scheme to change the way California allocates electoral votes in the 2008 Presidential election by putting an initiative on the June ballot.

Instead of awarding all 55 of California’s electoral votes to the Presidential candidate who wins the statewide vote, this Republican scheme would award votes one-at-a-time, based on the candidate who wins each of the state’s Congressional districts.

The Republicans claim that this is the fair way to fix voting, but there is nothing fair about it. First, even Arnold thinks it is unfair because it changes the rules at the last minute.

Secondly, California is the only state they are proposing to "fix". That's because they can they would gain up to 22 votes in a state that regularly votes Democratic, while risking nothing.

Finally, this only emphasizes the unfair Electoral College system under which a Californian's vote for President is worth less than 1/3 of a North Dakotan's vote. In fact, the votes of every small state count for more than the votes of every large state under this odious system.

Democrats have a better proposal. It would effectively get rid of the Electoral College by changing the system so that the winner of the national popular vote would win. The votes of every voter in every state would be equal. It can be done without a constitutional amendment, if enough large states pass identical laws.

Imagine! Equal votes for all American citizens. What a radical idea!

We also believe it is the intent of the perpetrators of this fraud to harass the Democratic Party by forcing us to spend our time and money to defend against it. The Siskiyou County Democratic Party is committed to stopping it before it can qualify for the ballot. We are asking all our members and any others interested to assist in this effort by visiting the State Party Page and volunteering to be a "Fraud Buster".

October 22 update:

Word on the street is that some unknown “Sugar Daddy” has infused their coffers and the California Republican Party is now paying $2 bucks per signature and they are back on the street with their "Steal the State" plot to nab 22 of California's electoral votes.

With more than 1,000 CDP Fraud Busters up and down the state, we must remain on top of this and do what is needed to make sure people in the targeted areas get the truth about this Plot.  We received a sighting from a CDP Fraud Buster today who encountered signature gatherers over the weekend at the Pismo Beach Crab Festival.

Please email cdpfraudbusters@cadem.org if you see the Electoral College initiative signature gatherers in your community.  Let us know their location so we can dispatch local activists, like you, to shine a light on Republican disinformation.

Sincerely,

SENATOR ART TORRES (RET.)
Chairman

P.S. We are still looking for CDP Fraud Busters in your area. Please sign up to be part of our frontline team working to stop GOP fraud in California. Thanks!
