DCCSC serves area Seniors lunch every Monday

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Mt. Shasta, CA shares the love of God in an open, caring, accepting and welcoming community. Join us in exploring and strengthening our faith while serving others in Christ’s Name.  Serving Mt. Shasta, Dunsmuir, McCloud, Weed, Lake Shastina, Yreka, and all of Siskiyou County. 

Since May 2021 Grassroots Democrats have served lunch to between 65 and 75 seniors at the Weed Community Center every Monday.


Administered by the Siskiyou Community Resource Collaboration, the program was closed for

20 months during the pandemic. Previously set up as a buffet lunch, post Covid safety

precautions required sit down service, masks until seated, maximum four per table and proof of vaccination, all of which have since been relaxed in 2023. The re-opening was made possible in partnership with the Community Engagement Committee of South Siskiyou Democrats.


Meals are provided by four different local vendors: Ellie’s and Pizza Factory in Weed or Mt.Shasta Market and Casa Ramos in Mt. Shasta, paid for by ¼ cent sales tax passed by the City of Weed, the senior lunch is open to all seniors in the area.


The sit-down service, enthusiastically embraced by the seniors, provides a relaxed atmosphere for connection, extended conversation and enjoyment of the delicious meals. Announcements at the beginning of each meal include an acknowledgement of Siskiyou Democrats’ on-going service, which always receives hearty applause. Our regular volunteers are an energetic team enjoying their participation with each other and the participants, while setting the tone for positive socializat
